Me in a nutshell ... |
... thankfully, just a part of it :-) It is extremely difficult to write about oneself, because most often than not, it is tainted with what one likes to believe himself to be - however, let me give it a whirl: I believe in continual learning - not just in a purely functional aspect, but also with a purpose to continually refine yourself in terms of your actions, thoughts, beliefs, etc. I am always ready to try out a variety of new things, and get a great kick out of learning something new. This is one of the things that drives me. I enjoy reading a lot, believing that through books we come across ideas of people who we may never have a chance to meet in our lives. Books manage to encapsulate their ideas, putting them there for the taking. This also serves to broaden and sharpen our horizons, by showing us perspectives which we may not have considered (whether we choose to accept, reject, try these perspectives, is of course a personal choice). Just as important as partaking of this knowledge is making it a part of your life, and sharing it. Knowledge is not something to hoard, rather, is something more enjoyed spreading. This is also one of the reasons why the Internet never ceases to amaze me. Of course, the Internet has an amazing inherent possibilities to empower a person, giving access to amazing amounts of information, speeding up communication, in a manner cutting down on physical boundaries, providing a platform for proclaiming and sharing your views (thankfully, also providing the receiver the option to pay attention, or pass it by), simultaneously also providing a forum for feedback, etc. etc.. The flip side however, is that it can lead you towards introversion, affecting your interaction with other people (a trait shared by books too). Youth, I feel, deserves a great deal of respect. It lets you dream the impossible, backing it with the courage and strength (and sometimes the stupidity :-) to attempt it, and even achieve it. I wish age would not make people so cynical. I hope I never grow old in that respect (and if I do, I reach my second childhood pretty fast :-). I freak out completely over movies and the outdoors. I am pretty lousy at sports, but enjoy them nevertheless (it's usually the others playing with me, who don't :-). What I am, is also a result of all the different people who I have met, and who cared enough to share so much with me - they will always remain a part of me. |
