Putting it all into practice ...

In May 1998, after completing my MBA, I joined Jasubhai Digital Media as the head of a new division called Special Projects - a division that served as an incubation hub for a number of activities which were later spun off into separate divisons.

Jasubhai Digital Media was headed by an extremely young, intelligent and enterprising person who favoured youth and enthusiasm over experience - the average age in the company barely reached 20 during it's initial months. The company was filled with a number of very electic and talented people from varied backgrounds, and combined an atmosphere of fun, gaiety and with hard work of great quality.

I worked in Jasubhai Digital Media for just about 2 years. These were 2 extremely hectic years, but were also very interesting, since this was a company which was still young, and growing (phew !!, what a pace). In less than 2 years, Jasubhai Digital Media grew to become the largest IT Media house in India. The company fostered an entrepreneurial work environment, and encouraged learning.

Though my job profile covered anything that came my way, I was formally involved with the creation of an innovative series which was a cross between a book and a magazine; the launch of 2 new magazines, which created two new segments in the Indian IT magazine market; initiating an events division; negotiating with Future Publishing UK, to launch their title Computer Arts Special in India. I left Jasubhai Digital Media in June 2000, to join Synapse - a not for profit training-cum-research institute focusing on media and technology, which was just being set up.

Synapse is a one of it's kind institute in India, and was the brainchild of (and headed by) the same person who earlier headed Jasubhai Digital Media. Synapse organized training camps on various functional, as well as emerging areas in Media, provides project incubation services, formulates business plans and offers content and strategic support to companies.

I was involved in it, right from it's inception. During my tenure there, I was completely responsible for 4 different training camps, and part of the administrative and finance functions, apart from helping out with a number of other activites.

I left Synapse in July 2001, and am presently taking, what I hope is, a well earned break after 3 years of work, to decide on my future course.

Setting up my own little corner on the Net, was something I had wanted to do for a very long time, and decided that this was the best time to try my hand at it. It is nothing much … yet, but ….. :-)
