Lahainaluna Voyaging Program
Lahainaluna Voyaging supplements the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism's program of instruction by allowing students to participate in cultural activities outside of the school setting. This program assists students in developing cultural values and awareness of things "Polynesian" with the help of the Maui and Hawai`i community. Students have the opportunity to experience Polynesian voyaging by learning history, Hawaiian chant and ha`a, water safety, CPR, first aid, crafts, protocol, navigation and sailing.
Program Objectives:
- Acquire knowledge and skills of the cultural history of Hawai`i.
- Develop positive attitude, values and teaming skills by working together with peers and adults from the Maui Community.
- Display courtesy, respect, teamwork and responsibility in all activities.
- Improve the health and well-being of participants.
- Care for and recognize the importance of preserving Hawai`i's delicate environment.
- Acquire knowledge and skills necessary for employment.
