PROJECTS

In the mid-eighties, a number of the villagers grouped together and Rowanburn Amenities Committee was formed. Their plan being to improve their surroundings and indeed they have completed many projects very successfully, giving up their quality time willingly, with the support of the landowner.

A conservation area has been completed on the former site of Rowanburn Pit which had been used as a rubbish tip since the 1920's. click here to read about the pits.

The Beechgrove Garden conservation village
Their largest project to date was in inviting the Hit-Squad from the Beechgrove Garden BBC 1 Scotland down to assist. With planning, much discussion and hard labour, lo & behold in 1997 from what had been previously a piece of waste ground, the Rowanburn Beechgrove Garden was officially completed.

Pictured is Lang Sandy of Rowanburn at the entrance (Alexander Armstrong) . A Border Reiver who was executed in 1606
(Members of the public are very wecome to visit - the only stipulation being that you take your litter with you!)
