The Pit chimney was demolished in 1935.

There were three pits at Rowanburn Rowanburn Pit (pictured here) The Bottoms Blinkbonny Rowanburn and Blinkbonny closed late 19th century. The Bottoms closed in the 1920's. However it is still visible today.

Following the closure of the Pits, The Duke of Buccleuch sold off all the houses. However it was not until the early 1950's, due to the untiring effort and constant battle with Bureaucracy by a local resident that the amenities were updated to 20th century status. Had this not materialised then Rowanburn village may not have existed today.
