We have an early buffet breakfast, board the bus at 8:00 and leave for Cadiz, Spain for Carnival! Carnival, comes from the Latin carne (meat) and val (good bye): start of Lent and no more meat. We arrived at the Spanish border at 10:00. Stopping at a place to exchange money, we found it closed because it was Sunday. On the way we passed lots of fields growing strawberries. The strawberries were started under plastic sheets to retain the heat. We also passed Citrus and Olive tree orchards. There were many vinyards which produce Sherry wine.
Arrived in Cadiz and the bus let us out near the start of the parade. On the way in we passed 100 buses parked along the street all people going to the parade. It was a "Zoo". Jose took us down the parade route and left us at the old city wall so we could explore the city before the parade.
Jane and I, along with Betty and Rosemary decided to walk through the old City. Many dress up; especially the children. We found a large square with sidewalk singers, venders and a booth giving away something. We took what they offered. I thought it was a matchbook, but when I opened it up it contained a condom!! We all got a laugh out of this.
