Algarve: Loule and Faro

On the next day, February 13, we had a buffet style breakfast that included eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, baked tomatoes with cheese, and bread. We left on the bus at 10am for a tour of the Algarve region with the first stop the city of Loule. Algarve is a Moorish word meaning South. All names that begin with Al are of Moorish orgin. Many buildings reflect the Moorish architecture.

We were dropped off at the market which was crowed with people. Jane bought some ceramic dishes and raisins. Fred bought some dried apricots with almonds sticking in them and a bag of almonds. The photo shows Jane looking at a long red vegetable. It was white inside. Does anyone know what it is? The leaves didn't look like a radish.

We then traveled to Faro, the capital of Algarve. We toured the city on our own. There were no crowds. We visited a church that was inside the old city walls. We stopped at a Pizza restaurant. Jane and I shared a "Tutti-Fruiti" pizza that was made with white cheese, chicken, banana, and pineapple. I had a half bottle of red wine and Jane had water. We were also served a relish with bread before the meal made with sliced carrots, whole olives and garlic. It was very good.
