A Little Piece Of The Web For Ex-Stewardesses

About Me

I was born in Vienna - Austria/Europe and later moved to South Africa.

Since I can remember I was always interested in aeroplanes. As far back as 4/5 years old. I was not a happy child when I was given a doll, but boy did I come to life when I was given a toy plane. Yes, maybe I should have been born male, and then I probably would have become a pilot, which was a dream of mine anyway. I always wanted to fly aircraft, but because of the immense costs involved I opted for the second choice and pursued a career as an airhostess. I did however manage a few flying hours on a Cessna but again because of the costs never managed to get a full PPL (private pilots licence).

Too suddenly for my liking my dream career ended, when my airline folded, especially as shortly before I was just promoted to purser. I have had by then spent about 15 000 hours in the air. As sad as it was, I am nevertheless very grateful to have been part of the flying game.

Shortly afterwards I finally found my true love and got married to my wonderful husband, Martin. I had to mention that, otherwise he might not have helped me to put this webpage together. :-)

This however has not caused me to neglect my first love. I am still collecting & making aeroplane models, taking pictures and try to fly privately as much as I can and whenever there is an air show you can be sure that I am there with my camera. Photography became another hobby of mine, and I am thankful now I took so many pictures during my flying career, which I can now share with you.

There are a lot of different styles and colours of uniforms, as they did change a lot over the years. When we flew under the name of LUXAIR/LUXAVIA the colour turquoise was always present, which also happens to be my favourite colour. When we changed to the name TREK AIRWAYS (confusion explained under Flying History) the colours where just navy and white.

So, here they are. Lots of "Hostie Pictures".

Me, at Luxembourg Airport in Findel. It was snowing heavily and it was bitterly cold. Especially just after an 11-hour flight from Johannesburg where it was high summer. A temperature change of 40 degrees Celsius.

I am standing in front of our Boeing 747-SP, flying as TREK AIRWAYS. The aeroplane was named LUXAVIA Star.

Here I am posing in our 747 with Christine, originally from Switzerland. We went to the same school in South Africa and a few months after I joined the airline she started and we did not just become colleges but also good friends.

Here I am working with my trolley, just before entering the back galley of the Jumbo.

In the forward galley of the 747, myself and Petra in our new TREK AIRWAYS. Uniforms.

Sonja, Mara, Cheronne and I, sitting at door 1R on our Jumbo on the way to the Seychelles.

Believe it or not! Here I am standing in one of our Airbus's engines.

Here I am in-between Claudia and Lee in one of the Airbus galleys.

Paula, myself and Linda in the back galley of the 747.

Ready to wake everyone up! Breakfast is served shortly! Andrea and I with the trolley.

A nice group picture in the nose of our 747-SP. The names are from the top, left to right.

And what do Airhostesses like to do best?

Sleeping, general vegetation in front of audio/visual equipment, and shopping !!!

Here I found Anja with HER trolley, just before Christmas in a giant supermarket just over the border from Luxembourg, in Germany.

After the closure of my airline, SAA - South African Airways took on just 11 out of nearly 200 cabin crew who just lost their jobs, but only for a period of a 3-Month Contract.

One of the lucky ones, in my SAA Uniform on a Boeing 737.

AVIA AIRLINES at Gatwick/London Airport. Here I am standing at the bottom of the stairs with some of my 65 crewmembers. The Uniform design was also my idea. The pursers where in grey with red and the rest of the crew where in the reverse, red with grey. As the boss, I had a choice of both, as I also worked in the office and needed a variety.
