Pigs

Yes, you can keep a pig as a pet - if you have the space and you do not mind having your beautiful flower beds and garden eaten or dug up. I had the good fortune to get acquainted with a normal domestic pig and a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig.

PERCY

Here is PERCY, a normal pink domestic pig. It was a malnourished and totally neglected little piglet. Soon it started to trust us, especially when it got food. It grew up with some of our dogs and actually thought it was a dog after a while. It came when you called his name and sat for you when you gave it a treat.

Here PERCY is already older, and definitely no longer malnourished!

A very happy pig who loved to eat everything especially flowers.

No, we never made bacon out of him and we always apologised to the pig world when we ate bacon or schnitzel.

PERCY eventually got far too big and destructive, so a farmer friend of ours took him in for his pig farm. He was not slaughtered! Thanks to the fact that he was a male. He became one of the stud pigs and was apparently in heaven with all the females!

PORKY

Here is PORKY our Vietnamese pot-bellied pig after a dig in the garden.

What a Life! Sleeping with us on the couch. I suppose he thought he was a cat.

Unfortunately we lost PORKY at an early age. We found him dead one day under his favourite tree. He died of a heart attack. His little heart could not take the heat we had experienced that summer.
