There are no scheduled tour-bus excursions. The itinerary, as it emerges from Valladolid and its Convent of San Bernadino de Siena, proceeds through quaintly chapeled countryside (with stops), traces an historical context from Spanish Colonialism to the Mayan upheaval of the Castes Wars -until the mid-day arrival at the Ruins of Ek Balám (Black Jaguar). Still in the process of a sparkling restoration, Ek Balám's original designers must have had future tourism in mind. Every bit as majestic as Chichen-Itza, the site is, nevertheless, so compact as to be traversible within a fraction of the time. Passing through the picturesque countryside of Yucatán's cattle region, and its town of Tzimin, an early supper is enjoyed gulfside in the fisherfolk's village of San Felipe.
