The itinerary, direct from Cancun, passes through the dense chicle-gum forests of northern Quintana Roo and Kantunil-Kin to break suddenly into the rolling cow country of neighboring Yucatán. Reaching the town of Tzimin we lunch square-side. Then on to Rio Lagartos to 'launch' along the saline Rio Colorados to the largest nesting site of Flamingos in North America.

The multitude of egrets, storks, cormorants, pelicans, etc., along the Rio Colorados would be enough to make the river a destination in itself. With the teeming Flamingo Colony at its estuary mouth, however, the river is more than just a destination. It 'is' like 'Stepping into the Pages of National Geographic.' Suffice it to say that most folks underestimate the amount of film they will invariably shoot.
