Before existing Cordillera de los Andes, wet winds from south pacific arrived here, where they left the water, instead of leaving, like this days, in West side of the mountains ( Chile). So, what this days is desert, was a splendid forest, full of big trees and dinosaurs. In some of the trees because a process that i do not understand, once dead, the organic material was replaced by inorganic material, and that are the trees that you can see. This process happened in a few places, for example a place near Sarmiento, the place in which photos were taken. For the same reason but different process, in patagonia you can see bones of dinosaurs.

Once in the floor the process begun and now this trees are made of stone

Not only because you are near a tree of about 65 millions years old but because the special characteristics of the landscapes , the place is unique , difficult to forget

Slowly, the wind erodes the soil, and discovers small or big parts, randomly

No doubt, it is a very special place in the word that a traveler in this region cannot leave without seeing.
