Adrar Plateau, Mauritania	Camping under tents in Mauritania	Chinguetti, Mauritania one of seven holy Islamic cities		Our first big trip out of Dakar, included St. Louis (sorry-no photo), Djoudj National Bird Park, Nouakchott, Atar, Chinguetti, and Tergit. Chinguetti, which is in the north of Mauritania, was our goal. In order to get there you must (in my opinion) take a 4x4 as there are section that would be impossible for normal 2-wheel drive vehicles. We saw some poor souls in a huge camper that had gotten stuck in Tergit while trying to go to Chinguetti a back way. On this page you will also find some photos of our quick trip to Banjul, The Gambia to visit our friends who were Peace Corps and VSO volunteers in the early '90's who were themselves visiting.
