History

The First Division is reduced to 21 clubs with an eventual reduction to 20 clubs. This is the first change in the size of the top League since 1920.

Four clubs are relegated.

Wimbledon win the FA Cup ten years after being a non-League club. This results denies Liverpool the League and FA Cup double.

Liverpool win their 17th Championship and equal Everton's record number of 90 points but by playing two games less.
