Welcome to Dan's Sailing Page!
[Home Page]
Everything you see on this webpage is dedicated to one of my
favorite hobbies, sailing. If you feel the same way about this sport (and, yes, sailing is an Olympic event!) as I do, feel free to contact me. Perhaps we can share stories and help each other in our endeavors.
Personal Philosophy toward Sailing
Sailing is an experience that is not for everyone, in my opinion.
I get a genuine thrill out of riding the wind and water, to feel the motion
of the deck under my feet, to know that I can step on the deck of a boat
in one port and get off in another port. It is also a sense of freedom.
It's an extension beyond the typical, 'expected' freedoms of being an American,
but a freedom of the soul to explore with all five senses. I can
see new horizons and new places, I can smell life beyond the sterilized
white picket fence, I can hear the stories of other people, I can feel
the motion of the boat and feel satisfaction on new shores. I can
also taste (literally and figuratively) other cultures (food's great).
I know it's not a joy for everyone because some people have a genuine
fear of water (or of what they cannot see) or they do not feel comfortable
on a moving boat (motion sickness). For those people I feel sorry,
for they are limited in a rare joy. Then there's another crowd who
just does not get a thrill out of sail and that's okay too. Everybody
has a right to their opinion and their hobbies. There are probably
many people out there with whom I share sentiments, nodding their heads
in agreement. For the others, that's okay too.
So, if you're a person who likes sailing, who is not sure, or you just
want to be 'taken for a ride' (and you just happen to be in the neighborhood),
let me know. I would be glad to show you the northern Chesapeake
Bay.
My Boat(s)
I do own one boat, which is my present pocket cruiser "Windswept".
She is a 1980 MacGregor Venture 22', also described as a Venture
222. She comes with a pop top, ship-to-shore radio (VHF), AM/FM cassette
stereo, port-a-potty head (people can attest to the small space),
galley and room for four (albeit rather tight). With her configuration,
one person alone can have her set up and ready to launch in less than an
hour. With the lines running aft, she can be single-handed underway.
If you would like to share other Venture information, please let
me know...I would love to post
other relevant information here.

Places to Sail
I can be found sailing up and down the northern Chesapeake Bay on occasion,
but because of the absolute luxury of a trailer, I can also be found sailing
on Lake Ontario or in Barnegat Bay too. How's that for getting around?
Favorite Sailing Links
I usually capture a few goodies here to serve as favorite sailing links.
If you have one you'd like to have added to my site, feel free to contact
me. My e-mail address at the very bottom of this page.
My Adventure Stories
Just about everytime I go for a sailing trip or cruise, I think of it as
another adventure. I would go out for just an afternoon or for a
four-day overnight cruise. In any case, I try to take pictures and
write down things seen, learned, experienced and something worthy of sharing.
The following links are my adventures:
