Located on the west side of O'Connell Street, the impressive General Post Office was built from 1815 thru 1817 by Francis Johnston. During the Easter Insurrection in 1916, the building was used as the headquarter by the rebels lead by Patrick Pearse and James Connolly. Nowadays, a memorial in the main hall preserves the memory of the Irish freedom fighters. |
