Malahide Castle, property of the Talbot family from the
13th century thru 1975, when it was sold to the community of Dublin,
was altered and extended several times during the centuries. So, the building now
features medieval, Georgian and modern architecture styles. Inside, the large hall
is remarkable for its oak works. It's the only castle hall in Ireland which preserved
its medieval style and was used for its original purpose until 1975.
Nowadays, the castle is home to the National Portrait Gallery which belongs to National Gallery in Dublin. You may visit the castle on a guided tour only. Unfortunately, photographing inside the castle is not permitted, so all I have to show is an outside view of the building. While the first picture (above) gives you some idea of the dimensions of the castle's park, the picture below shows the building more detailed. |
