My first port of call in Africa and indeed on my entire world tour. I've heard the best and
the worst stories about Kenya and so approach it with a certain mix of expectation and trepidation.
I start in Nairobi and head north to the lakes Navaisha and Nakuru. Nakuru is suspected to have
been the source of the Phoenix legend, the bird rising from the ashes. Its a soda lake and the
Flamingoes are the only animals which can bear its extreme alkaninity. I'm not sure if we touch
on the Rift Valley, where I've heard you can faint from sheer heat if you stop moving. One place
I wish I wasn't missing is Mombasa on the coast - ah well maybe next time.
