Ayurveda

Ayurveda, Ayu(life) Veda(science, knowledge), the unmatched ancient Indian system of healing stresses, the importance of the healthy and harmonious relationship between human being and nature.

Having evolved around 600 BC in India, this system of medicine stressed on the prevention of body ailments in addition to curing them. Followed by the Dravidians and Aryans alike, Ayurveda has been practised ever since. Today, it's a unique, indispensable branch of medicine - a complete naturalistic system that depends on the diagnosis of the body's humours - vata, pitta and kapha - to achieve the right balance.

Ayurveda believes in the treatment of not just the affected part, but the individual as a whole. Making it the natural way to refresh yourself, eliminate all toxic imbalances from the body and thus regain resistance and good health.

Listed below are some of the Ayurvedic procedures practiced in isolation or combination according to ones' need and requirement, on consultation with the Consulting Ayurveda Vaidya, and under expert medical supervision including Allopathic doctors.

Panchakarma (Overall fitness)

Panchakarma deals with the science of rejuvenation, the process of purification of the body from the degenerating influence of all kinds of ‘doshas’, acumulated toxicity.

Pizhichil

(For rheumatic diseases like arthritis, spondilosis, paralysis, hemiplegia, agitanus , sexual weakness, nervous weakness and disorder etc.)

Pizhichil is one of the most popular Ayurvedic treatments. In this method luke-warm herbal oils are applied by squeezing out of boluses all over the body by two to four trained masseurs in a special rhythmic way continuously for about 60 to 90 minutes a day for a period of 7 to 21 days.

Kizhi

(For osteoarthritis, arthritis swelling, spondilosis, sports injuries etc.)

Kizhi is perhaps the most popular Ayurvedic treatment method. In Kizhi method herbal leaves (Ela kizhi), herbal powders (Podi Kizhi) are applied to the whole body in boluses with hot medicated oils for 45 minutes per day for a period of 7 to 14 days.

Njavarakizhi

(For rheumatism, Pain in the joints, emaciation of limbs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, certain skin diseases etc.)

Navarakizhi is a process by which the whole body or any specific part there of is made to perspire by the application of certain medical puddings externally in the form of blouses tied up in muslin bags. This is applied by two to four masseurs for about 60 to 90 minutes a day for a period of 14 days.

Dhara

(For chronic headaches, insomnia, mental tension and cases of hysteria, hallucination and insanity)

Herbal oils, medicated milk or butter milk and decoctions are poured on the forehead/whole body in a special manner. Variations include Oordhwanga Dhara (good for diseases of the eyes, ears and skin), Takra Dhara (for those suffering from memory loss, severe headache or insanity) and Sarvanga Dhara (for both head and body).

 In Dhara method medicated oil, milk are poured steadily for about 45minutes in a day for a period of 7 to 21 days.

Vasthi

(For arthritis, Paralysis, hemiplegia, numbness, gastric complaints, constipation etc.)

There are three types of Vasthis, Kazhaya vasthi, Matra vasthi and Sneha vasthi. In vasthi method certain herbal oils herbal extracts etc. are applied through the rectum on a daily basis for 3 to 21 days.

Sirovasthi

(For facial Paralysis, dryness of the nostrils,mouth and throat, severe headaches, etc.)

In sirovasthi lukewarm herbal oils are poured into a cap fitted on the head of the patient for 10 to 60 minutes for a period of seven days.

Nasyam

(For nasal ailments)

In Nasyam method herbal juices, medicated oils etc. are applied through the nose of patient for 7 to 14 days, to eliminate the morbid factors from the head and neck area.

Marma Chikitsa

(For treatment for musculo-skeletal ailments due to trauma or accidents)

Treatment that works on the extremely sensitive vital points of the body (the 107 marmas).

Snehapanam

(For osteoarthritis, sporasis, etc)

In snehapanam method special purified medicated ghee is given internally in a proportionally increased quantity for a period of 8 to 12 days.

Karnapooram

(For cleaning of ears and certain ear diseases.)

In karnapooram method medicated fumes are applied to the ear for 5 to 10 minutes. This process helps to clean the ear and cure ailments associated with hearing and ear.

Tharpanam

(For eye problems)

Tharpanam is a cleaning process of the eyes giving a cooling effect. It relieves the effects of cataract and also cure certain types of diseases while strengthening the optic nerve.

Udvarthanam

(For diseases like hemiplegia, paralysis, obesity and certain rheumatic ailments)

Usually treatment with therapeutic massages using herbal powders and a proper vegetarian diet lasting up to 21 days, helps to reduce a few kilograms of extra weight.

Abhayabgaam ( Ayurvedic massage)

(For general well being)

Massaging the entire body by masseurs, after application of herbal oil is the most important aspect of the therapy. 

Medicated steam bath

( Nearly always in combination with other treatments and massages)

Medicinal plants leaves and roots are steam distilled and the steam is passed over the whole body for about 10 to 20 minutes. As part of a rejuvenation package this treatment is excellent to get rid of the doshas of the entire body, prevents premature ageing and prevent gynea problems.
