Palmentuin

There is a place where Surinamers like to gather for parties and festivals. "Palmentuin" is the name of this park. Its name means "palms garden" in Dutch. There are several hundred palm trees in this one park. Palmentuin is located directly behind the Presidential Palace in downtown Parmaribo.

Booths filled with crafts, toys, and food lined the walkways. There were kids' rides and playground equipment teeming with playful children. Music filled the air, and beautiful koti dresses could be seen everywhere. Somehow the day seemed nicer in a beautiful place like "Palmentuin."
