Well finding somewhere to stay permanently in Dublin wasn't easy. Dan and I stayed at three different hostels until we discovered the Abbey Hostel on Bachelors walk which turned out to be the beginning of the highlight of my trip for me, unfortunately I think the Abbey was the beginning of the end of Dans Irish trip. We both stayed there and looked for work, Dan found work faster than I did and I ended up having to borrow money off him (Thanks dude, you saved my life). Once I got work I was doing all sorts of crap, stacking shelves, doing filing, I even signed up to be a porter at a bar but never showed up to work! Well after a week or so of this Dan had had enough and he decided to head up to Scotland, I on the other hand decided I would stick it out a bit longer. Didn't know why at the time, but I'm so glad I did now anyway. I made some really good friends at the hostel and one of the best turned out to be a lovely young Canadaian girl who worked at the hostel named Jen. Little did I know when we met that we would not only be roomates before long, but also travelling companions in South Africa! Funny how things turn out isn't it? | |||||||||||||||
Well on the same day as I had my first interview for a "real job" (i.e computer work) another girl from the Hostel, Maree, took me aside and asked if I was looking for a flat to stay in. As surprised as I was by the question as I had hardly even spoken to Maree before now, I said yea I was. So Maree told me that Jen lived in the same flat and if I walked home with her that night I could check the place out. Seemed like a good idea, so when Jen finished her shift we started walking towards what was to be my new abode. The above picture is what the flat looks like from the outside, its the one aboce the Kit Kat sign, and the pic on the left is the view from our lounge window. |
