During our mid-term 'study' break I travelled to Thailand with two friends - Chris from Vancouver and Sharon from Berkeley, USA. We took the overnight bus from Singapore to Had Yai, Southern Thailand, then a mini-van to Krabi, on the west coast. The weather was, well, wet! We spent one night there before deciding to head on north to Bangkok. We waited for 6 hours in the bus terminal for our overnight bus to the Capital. We stayed in Bangkok for four nights - doing all the touristy things - temples, shopping, museum, massage, food, and watched a game of Muay Thai (Thai Kick-boxing) which was AWESOME. We saw two Knock-outs!
We then left Bangkok on Friday afternoon, took the overnight train to Butterworth, Malaysia, then a bus to KL and another bus to Johor Bahru before finally arriving back home at 7.30am on Sunday morning.
In total, during the 9 days we were away, we spent 68 hours on buses and trains! That doesn't include the many hours spent waiting at bus stops. Four nights and one day were spent in public transport...but it was a really, really good trip and a lot of fun!
