It is great being able to 'pop overseas' for the weekend! Living in NZ where the nearest country is about 3 hours away by plane, I cannot get over how quickly and cheaply you can travel in Asia!
Like all other International Students at NUS, I made the pilgrimmage to Tioman Island a few weeks ago. Tioman is on the east coast of Malaysia and is where the film "South Pacific" was set. It is your stero-typical tropical island - a jungle-covered mountainous interior, and beautiful beaches. It took 6 hours by bus and boat to reach Tioman from Singapore.
I travelled up with a group of 9 International Students. We left on Friday morning and were back for class on Monday. There are some beautiful beaches there, and fantastic coral. Best of all it was really cheap - about $5 a night accomodation! |
