'Phone clubs' are an unfortunate modern development in the cities of Japan. Many public phones are plastered with these tacky adverts. Aside from this, public phones are very good. Grey phones can be used for local and international calls, and have conventional modem and ISDN ports for computers. Technology it seems is moving ahead faster than social issues.
