DECO Divers Dive Planner

What's New:

Thanks to all who replied in the techdiver list!!! I've ironed out some glitches and there are some new features, it's is now Deco Divers Dive Planner version 1.1.

  • You can now use any bottom mix you want, it'll default to the next highest table, like if you use a 29 bottom mix, it'll use the 30 percent table.
  • It'll also alert you if you'll be exceeding 1.6 PO2. It'll show as a red message at the top right box. When you see this message, it usually means that you've also exceeded table limits.
  • I removed the Watch Out You're Going to Die!!! message. It is now replaced with Exceeding Table Limits!!! message which I believe is more accurate and appropriate. The initial message was made my Totek as a joke.
  • History:

This Excel based dive planner was the brainchild of Isagani "Totek" Bisnar. He set about making our lives simpler by putting in the IANTD tables that we used in the spreadsheet, and being the computer whiz that he is, made it all automated. But alas, he left before giving us the final version of the file, it is believed that it is still locked away somewhere in his computer at his office. We were left with an incomplete version of the planner, although working, it lacked the air tables that we sometimes use. This is where I come in, after searching through old files, I found one of the older versions in Hooverman's files. Building on this, I set about adding the air tables and putting in some new features that I believe would be very helpful. What you get here is the end product of Totek and the DECO Master's hard work.

    Features:

The DECO Dive Planner is essentially a table reader, an IANTD accelerated table reader to be exact. It can do repetitive dives and computes for your residual nitrogen time, CNS and OTUs for the next dive based on your surface interval. It can also do accelerated decompression with the option of putting in your own deco mix. Finally, it can also calculate Pyle deep stops. The layout looks exactly like the IANTD Technical Logbook so it is a great tool for both intructors and students of IANTD technical courses. It is a great tool for dive planning and works even better if you can transfer it to a plamtop to take it with you anywhere you go. It can also be a life saving tool if you're too lazy or don't know how to use tables.

    How to use the planner:

First thing to do is download it, and make a note of where you save it. After that, if you downloaded the zipped version unzip the file using of the multitude of programs outthere like Winzip. Then just double click the decoplanner.xls file to start planning your dives, just make sure you got Mircosoft Excel installed.

Once you get the planner up and running, you can see that the whole spreadsheet is color coded. You can only input stuff on the yellow colored cells or spaces. The first few thing to fill out is the dive no., the date, the time of the dive, and the dive site. Next is the planned depth and bottom time along with your actual bottom mix. The lowest bottom mix you can use is 21 or air and the highest is 34, this will be the case until more tables are put in. The bottom mix can either be 21, 26, 30 and 34. After putting in a value for the bottom mix, you can notice that the planner already has your deco schedule out, and that the box on the top right also has changed. The box on the top right shows you what table you are using and what bottom and deco mix it uses. The next field you enter is the actual deco mix, this works only if you have answered yes to the accelerated deco. The deco mix automatically defaults to which ever is higher, your actual deco mix or the recommended deco mix. Please note that you should at least use the recommended deco mix for your decompression. The next two fields are the deep stops and accelerated deco, answer y or n to them and see the results in the schedule box below or the box on the right. The next box is the surface interval, put in the number of hours and minutes hh:mm that you did of si, this field is used only on repetitive dives. The next yellow box you should see is in the dive schedule box under RMV, just put in your rmv there to calculate your gas requirements. Please note that this planner is basically a metric one, and that the RMV is in liters per minute and the gas requirements are also in liters. The lower two boxes has some more additional info. The one on the left shows the mininum surface interval you have to do because nitrogen and cns loading. It also has some more info which you can use to tweak you dive plan. The one on the right shows your gas requirements along with computing thirds requirements. The two yellow boxes there are the volume of gas that you will have in your back tanks and deco tanks, just fill this in with the correct volume in liters and you can see if you have enough gas for the dive.

    Disclaimer:

Use this planner at your own risk! I don't have any money so there's no point sueing me in the first place, if you anything happens to you while using this planner, it was probably your fault, don't blame other people for your mistakes!
