The Berlin Wall

During the years between 1987 and 1991 I visited Berlin many times. I must admit that during those years the Berlin Wall was so attractive to me; the world was divided in two blocks deeply opposed, and Berlin was surely a symbol of the old world order, "cut" by the Wall which used to divide the city in two parts, one under western and the other under the russian influence.
Here there are some pictures I shot during those years, and these picture shows the change between the old divided Berlin and the new Berlin which is going to be the new capital of the united Germany.

The wall close to the Checkpoint Charlie (1988)

Changing of the guard in front of the monument to the victims of Nazism and Fascism (1988)

Two border policemen patrolling Potsdamer Platz (1989)

The East-Berlin's distric of Pankow (1987)

The metro station of Pankow(1987)

The checkpoint opened on Potsdamer Platz during winter 1989, soon after that magic night when the wall fell down.
