Phom Penh
Period: Fall 1999

The capital seems crowded at least on the big main roads as Monivong, where there is a lot of motorbikes and bicycles. The air is really dusty but it is still not that polluted. In Phom Penh we rented motorbikes, which was a really good way to get around, just watch out for the police. They are constantly trying to make money, so avoid eye contact with them and just go on, if they are waving at you. In the airport a police officer tried to charge me 25$ for the visa even though the real price is only 20$.
A thing I noticed in Phom Penh was the deserted streets at night time. Normally nobody walks around after sunset and we were warned against doing it.
