The Royal Palace
The capital, a very beautiful and romantic city, not fare from the border of Thailand. One of the best things to do in Vientiane is to relax and enjoy life by the river of Mekong. There is a lot of small restaurants by the riverside, from where you can see Thailand. Going to a night-club in Vientiane is an unusual experience, the music, people bringing their children, the singers, dancing people….. it seems as if, it is an experience you could have had in Europe maybe 20-25 years ago.
A good way to experience the city, as it is for most Asian cities, is by biking. However the city is not that big, so one can easily walk around without using too much energy.
North of Vientiane, this village is placed in an area with caves and rivers. It is a beautiful area, and the main event in the area is to go down river on inner tubes. A Tuk-Tuk driver can take you 10-15 km. up river, from where you go downhill. The trip on the inner tubes takes between 2-4 hours depending on distance and current. I did the down river trip after sunset, which in deed is a great experience! While floating down river you enjoy the silence of the area, only disturbed by the sounds of the jungle and the parts of the river, where the current gets stronger.
This experience is awesome, don't miss it if you are going to Van Vien.
