Evening at MUMC HUT

Above, Mike and I enjoy a candlight dinner (glad we brought the wine afterall!) in the MUMC hut. We had the place all to ourselves...

In the middle of the night, we were awakened by possums or other rodents that were trying to get into the hut (must have smelled our dinner)...a look outside revealed a sky sparkling with millions of bright stars...tried to catch it on film with a long shutter speed...an interesting picture, but it doesn't do the brilliant sky justice...

Early in the morning, we awoke to watch the sunrise...this was what we first saw when we opened the door to the hut...a rare occasion when the photo actually does the landscape justice...

The sunrise photo was the last one on my only roll of film...so there are no pictures of the magnificent Himalayan-like mountains as we hiked out of MUMC hut towards Federation Hut (a more popular hut where at least three groups had stayed the night before). Down the easy slope of Bungalow Spur and we were back where we started. Before driving back to Melbourne, we stopped at the trout farm in Harrietville where our hike began and bought two fresh trout to broil when we got home! Mmmmm....good! (The photo was taken at the beginning of the hike in one of the blocked streams where the trout were spawned.)
