Kangaroo Island - Animals
After arriving safely, we did get to enjoy some amazing widlife - some examples follow:
This is an echidna, a monotreme from Australia. A monotreme is a mammal that lays eggs (the only other one that we are aware of is the platypus, which unfortunately we didn't get a picture of). These guys are very funky looking, with their porcupine spines and their pointy noses. Normally they ball up when people come around, but one of the benefits of kangaroo island (K.I.) is that the animals are not afraid of humans.
Just another view of that killer snout.
We also saw some koala, who were actualy imported to provide them with an ideal environment to live in (in case them become threatened on the mainland). We know you've seen pictures of koalas on our previous web pages, but we are confident that we will not get better pictures of a koala than this (even though there will probably be other pictures of koalas on future home pages ... )
He's such a cute and cuddly little guy. And wide awake - something you don't see too often, as they sleep 18 hours a day!
And another guy. This is more the photographer in Melissa (notice the framing ... )
