Kangaroo Island's Namesake
We also saw the animals that gave Kangaroo Island it's name; when Matthew Flinders landed on the island in 1802 needing food, he was so happy to find a plentiful supply of meat that he named the island after the roos. The kangaroos were exceedingly friendly, as they used to be fed by visitors to the Flinder's Chase National Park (where we took all of these pictures). A good example of their lack of fear is shown below, where Melissa helps scratch a hard to reach spot.
Soon after she made this kangaroos aquaintance, we had some others take interest in our car.
We thought about taking these girls home, but decided the better of it due to our lack of space in our flat. Melissa did manage to give Mike the camera while these girls were searching the car and he managed to get a real close up ...
She says hello to everyone out there.
Saving the best for last. The picture below is pretty much the same as the koala picture; we've had other roo pictures on the web before, but this one will be hard to top.
