Selkirk Mountains Hiking

This page countains my photos of a trip to the Selkirk, near Revelstoke (Eastern B.C.). In August 1999, we spent 4 glorious days at the Durrand Glacier Chalet. Click on the thumbnail to see the full-size photo and on the 'Back' key to return to this page.

[Image] TUE. 3 August 1999. Sunny. Up at 5:30 AM, breakfast at 6:15. Drove in a van, by the dam, up a logging road, helicopter to Durrand Glacier chalet. We flew over the spectacular Twin falls. The chalet is at 6100 feet. We have our own rooms complete with cozy quilts.

[Image] WED. 4 August 1999. We hiked to Tumbledown Lake (2 photos together, one horizontal, one vertical). Breakfast at 7, the first group set off at 8, they're going to the top of Fromalp. They'll have to go all day. I don't feel like rushing so I leave with the second group led by Katja. There's only 5 of us, nice to have a small group. We have to go down and cross the river on a bridge then up, through alder where we have to scream to scare the bears, it's tiring. Up more snow patches to Tumbledown lake, some ice on it. Lunch there, it's cold. Started down @ 11:45, we can see the other group on the ridge. More screaming through the alder. I'm wearing my light boots, my feet are soaked. A bit of rain on the way back. Back @ 3:40 to a delicious snack of freshly baked pita bread and 2 spread: baked eggplant with roasted garlic (babaganoush) and humus. Stew for dinner.
[Image] Day 3, hike up a steep trail to Mirror Lake and the Durrand Glacier. Click on this small photo to see the pictures I took on that day.
