I spent two weeks in Ecuador studying Spanish and living with a family

[Image] I (Maryse) am standing in the main square (zocalo) in the old part of Quito. Behind me is the Panecillo (a huge statue of the Virgin Mary on top of a hill).
[Image] The village of Guapulo is accessed by walking down a steep path from downtown Quito (it's also possible to take the bus there).
[Image] This is the gold-plated interior of the Guapulo chapel.
[Image] There are some nice houses in this village.
[Image] The town of Otavalo is famous for its market. It is located about 1 1/2 hour North of Quito.
[Image] We climbed to the top of the Basilica, notice the time on the two clocks!
[Image] Old Quito, the Panecillo and the statue of the Virgin seen from the top of the Basilica tower.
[Image] Beautiful woven purses at the Saquisili market (South of Quito).
[Image] Three women in costumes at the Saquisili market.
[Image] Selling produce at the Saquisili market. The black baskets are made of old tires.
[Image] I bought this naive painting in one of the markets. It represents Ecuador well with a volcanoe, llamas, people in costumes.
