Country life
I live in the countryside of northern Italy with my wife and six dogs. We manage a farm and probably we are very eccentric people. We love nature and so we prefer to live in the countryside. We have planted a wood of 25000 square meters around our house, more than 1500 trees, in particular oaks, filberts, pines, hawthorns, elders, viburnus and cornels, the half of these mycorrhized with truffles (tuber uncinatum, tuber melanosporum and tuber magnatum pico). This was possible because of an European Community regulation (2080/92) in order to reduce agro alimentary production and ameliorate the environment. I think that was really a great chance to do something for the nature and I am very proud of my choice. Around us everybody cuts or burns trees and we are considered mad. I know very well that probably we'll never gather truffles that were not the first reason to plant the wood. This EC regulation allows to plant trees with a fair economic refund for the loss of production and I think is very important to do something for the nature. Half of the wood was planted 3 years ago and the rest this year, and one can already view that the nature begins to spring again in this area of industrial agriculture. A lot of birds I never saw before now frequent the area. We cultivate the farm within the rules of reduced environmental impact agriculture (EC regulations 2078/92) and we are now programming to shunt to bio agriculture, but this is not easy at all.
