My Work
I am an ophthalmic surgeon, that's me performing a phacoemulsification. My name is Giovanni Tosti and my major interests are cataract and glaucoma surgery, retinal fluorescein and indocyanine green digital angiography and retinal lasers. I perform over 300 phacoemulsifications/year and I usually do phaco chop with temporal near clear cornea access under topical anesthesia, with 3.2 mm incision and foldable IOL implantation. I am particularly interested in laser treatment of age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. I am member of the Italian Society of Ophthalmology SOI, The French Society of Ophthalmology SFO and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery ESCRS and the Italian Society of Laser in Ophthalmology SILO. I am 46-year-old and I work at the ophthalmic department of S. Luca Hospital in Trecenta (Ro), in northern Italy. I support Public Library of Science because I firmly believe that knowledge, and scientific knowledge in particular, must be freely accessible to all. Moreover I think that a rapid diffusion of scientific knowledge is essential for the progress of science.
