After leaving the Sandy Lake, I checked into the Singapore Hilton for a R&R period. I spent the next three days touring this fascinating city/country. I remember visiting the Botanical Gardens, the Zoo and just relaxing. While I was there I visited a travel agency where I was initially booked on a Pan Am flight. They had told me that I had the choice between flying over the Pacific or across Asia and Europe. I chose the latter. Later due to some disturbing news about Arab terrorists blowing up American planes in the desert, I changed my flight to non-American airlines or at least not Pan Am. So I booked the following trip of a lifetime. When it was over I had visited the following places: Via Lufthansa Airlines Boeing 707
I stayed in the Ashoka Hotel in Delhi for 3 days and then hired a car and driver for the day trip to see the Taj Mahal in
Via Royal Nepal Airlines to Kathmandu. After visiting Agra I decided to visit my ham friend the Rev. Fr. Mike Moran 9N1MM Who ran a Catholic School for boys near Katmandu. I had talked to Father Moran a few times on the Maritime Mobile net. I need to mention that one of my former captains Capt. Frank Maholland WB2WUQ who was Master of the ST Transhatteras was a very good friend of Father Moran's
This is probably one of the most memorable trips in my life to the "top of the world" or close to it. This was a major Buddhist Temple in downtown Katmandu. Kathmandu can be spelled two ways so it seems. Via Air India Boeing 707
