The unique festivities will highlight mankind's triumphs, challenges and opportunities.

Special entertainment is under development, including an opening ceremony for the new millennium that will commemorate the planetís diversity with larger-than-life figures, adorned in vibrant colors, representing all the regions of the world.

Epcot also will introduce a completely new nighttime spectacular, filled with lasers, fireworks and special effects. And countries and companies from around the world will be invited to showcase ways they are making significant contributions to the new millennium.

There will be much more as Epcot gears up to mark this global milestone, said Judson Green, president of Walt Disney Attractions. Walt Disney once referred to Epcot as a living blueprint of the future, noted Green. And it is in that spirit that we welcome the world to celebrate the millennium at this, our discovery park.

With the international cultures of World Showcase and the technological attractions of Future World, Epcot is the natural setting for an event that draws together all mankind in a celebration of what lies ahead, he said.

As we move toward the new millennium, Epcot will highlight those things which make our cultures unique and those things that bind humanity, said Green. Epcot will be a place where our guests can celebrate this moment in history in a spirit of fun and, at the same time, discover the exciting breakthroughs that lie ahead.

Specific details of the celebration are still being worked out, according to Walt Disney World President Al Weiss. We're thrilled to be throwing this global party in the very heart of our World, Weiss said.
