Professional Experience

Arthouse, Multimedia Centre for the Arts
Feb 95 - August 97
Job title: European Projects / New Media Coordinator.
I joined Arthouse in 1995 as R&D assistant, part of a team of 7 people. My role in the company quickly advanced to European Projects Coordinator and I was later awarded the added responsibility of New Media Coordinator. Arthouse moved into the first purpose-built Multimedia Centre in 1996 and employed 25 full time and 8 part time staff by August 1997. I was personally responsible for coordinating 7 employees in the Research, Development and Bureau of Arts Information departments.

Responsibilities:
European Union and New Media Projects management and coordination:-
subjects and content of the projects included:
  • research and development of telecommunications across European countries
  • education and training in Information Technology to various sectors (educators /cultural groups /commercial)
  • networking image and text databases
  • developing online services
  • collaborative multimedia artistic projects and web exhibitions.

for details of specific European and Art projects see www.arthouse.ie under Art and Projects

Project Coordination involved:
  • sourcing companies with relevant and complementary skills to form a synergistic project team
  • discussing methods and conceptualization of the project objectives and structure
  • setting tasks and responsibilities into Work Package Modules for each participant and writing the proposal according to individual strengths and commitment
  • budgeting and technical considerations and labour scheduling
  • holding regular meetings to ensure tasks were carried out according to the milestones and targets set
  • organising funds allocation and invoicing the European Commission Finance Division
  • writing project reports, technical audits and financial accounts at the end of each project

Active coordination of collaborative multi-media projects using digital representations of images required that I obtain knowledge of comparable communication techniques, speed and security of delivery of data online. Other contributing project factors included data protection, legal aspects of new media, ownership issues, intellectual property rights, and encryption techniques.
