Culloden Battlefield

In 1745, Charles Edward Stuart was vying for the throne of all of Britain. "Bonnie Prince Charlie" and his loyal Jacobite followers constantly fought the English in an attempt to secure the throne. This hard-fought struggle ended in a bloody battle on April 16, 1746 on Culloden Moor, where the Jacobites were defeated.

Today the moor still has an eerie presence; one can almost hear the cries of the dying soldiers. Headstones, like this one, mark the graves of the clansmen.
