Niki was already a part of the family, but we knew she needed a 'playmate' while we were away at work. Determined to give a lost sole another chance at life, we decided to find a local rescue group that handled German Shepherds. Luckily, we found the German Shepherd Dog Rescue Houston, Inc. located in Houston, Texas. After several months of perusing their website, we finally settled on a little black Shepherd named Tyson. When we got to the foster home, the foster mother informed us that she had to let another one of the Shepherds go that she had intended on keeping. Something about Kenny stole our hearts the minute we laid eyes on him. Needless to say, we adopted Kenny from GSDRH at the ripe old age of 15 months. You say 15 months isn't old for a dog; well, you didn't know Kenny! It took us 3 months before we could convince Kenny that playing was a good thing. He just sat and looked at us like we were aliens! Niki was devastated that her new 'playmate' wouldn't play! Looking back, was that ever a mistake! Now you can't go ANYWHERE without being assailed by a tennis ball or bone or whatever else he may find to amuse himself. All-in-all, Kenny has turned out to be one of the sweetest, most loyal animals I have had the privilege of meeting. He's very tender-hearted and his feelings get hurt very easily. He's still trying to get over his past life, which we're convinced must have involved some abuse.
