North Head Lighthouse

North Head Lighthouse

North Head Lighthouse, August, 1997

The North Head Lighthouse was built on Cape Disappointment in 1898, only two miles from the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse.  The original fourth order lens has been replaced by a beacon mounted on the outside of the tower.  The beacon was automated in 1961.

This lighthouse, like the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse was in much better shape when I first saw it in 1986.

The lighthouse grounds are open to the public, and are relatively easy to reach.  Follow the lighthouse signs from Canby State Park to the parking lot near the keepers' residences, and follow a short easy path to the lighthouse.
