As you know, I was born in Kuala Lumpur. When I was 1 ½ we moved
to Abu Dhabi, The United Arab Emirates. We lived in The UAE until
I was 11, when my sister, my mum and myself moved to Ireland
because my parents wanted us to go to school in Ireland. My dad
stayed in The UAE with his job, we go back to visit him 3 times a
year (Christmas, Easter, Summer). I really loved living in the UAE,
and miss it very much. I’m not a great fan of Europe (the
continent), and make a habit of pointing out all it’s faults to
everyone I know.
I spend quite a large amount of my time on my computer. I don’t
have time to play games, although I do have a few. I enjoy
designing websites, I don’t like writing content for them
though. I made my first website in 1997, it was called PC
Games. I made the first version of it using Word 97’s
website editor, but later I taught myself HTML by looking at the
source code of websites and working out what the different
commands did. At the moment I am learning C, I hope to later move
on to C++, C# and Java.
I have three computers; a Gateway PII 266mhz desktop with 160mbs
RAM (the one I normally use), a Gateway PII 333mhz portable and a
custom built 486 with <Alan hangs his head in shame> 20mbs
RAM. At the moment I only have a dial-up connection, but I am
planning to get cable soon from ntl.
I have two printers, a HP 560c and an Epson Stylus 600. I have a
HP ScanJet 5100C scanner and two Agfa ePhoto CL30 digital cameras
(which I won from eCircles).
My desktop is out in the conservatory, so I have three halogen
lights and two heaters positioned around it.
When I lived in Abu Dhabi I went to Al Khubairat Community School.
I was extremely happy there, and during holidays I actually wanted
to go back to school. The school was nice, bright, and colourful
and had a great atmosphere. I felt everyone was my friend and I
liked all the teachers. In Ireland I go to St.
Gerard’s School. Although I have quite a lot of friends
there, I am not very happy. The school is dull, with very few
colours and I think it has a terrible atmosphere that definitely
does not make me want to learn. During the holidays I dread going
back to school and feel that going to school in Ireland is
damaging my education.
I feel that Ireland is a very depressing country and I will be
very happy when I leave it. My plans for life are to get a good
job in a warm part of North America probably doing something to do
with computers. I will definitely not live in Europe, I would like
to go back to Abu Dhabi, but my preference is North America.
This year I am doing my Junior Cert., which I am not looking
forward to. I feel that I am not great at studying, and not liking
school here doesn’t help. I manage to keep going though by
thinking what my life can be like if I do well.
There is one thing that I do like about Ireland though (I know,
it’s amazing) and that is the area where I live. I really like
going for walks, and there are some really nice ones around where
I live (although they can’t beat a good walk on the Corniche in
Abu Dhabi). I like our house, although it is very small – but it
has a great atmosphere.
I’m very much into the latest in technology, so I love reading
all the tech and science news on the internet. I love having the
latest in everything, although some of the members of my family
don’t agree with me.
