Ender Bay is a character I made up to play the game Neverwinter Nights (NWN) on America Online (AOL). NWN was an Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (AD&D) fantasy role-playing game in a large multiplayer environment which the followed the format of other "Gold Box" games that TSR produced. I got the idea for the name Ender from Orson Scott Card's character of the same name, however Ender Bay in no way is supposed to be like that character.
The Brotherhood Of Pathfinders is a guild of players that originated on AOL playing NWN. Since AOL closed the gates on NWN we have moved around a bit, but haven't given up our love of multiplayer online role-playing games. We currently can be found playing EverQuest on the Cazic-Thule server. We are guild molded on AD&D rules - we are of good-alignment and only take characters of the ranger, druid, and cleric classes. Characters must agree to worship the goddess Mielikki.
Mielikki is an AD&D goddess based on Finnish myth. She is the goddess of nature or "Mistress of the Forest" according to TSR's Deities & Demigods (Copyright 1980). Here is what they say about her:
The goddess is always dressed in a green gossamer gown, even in the coldest of winters, and is always surrounded with summer songbirds. She watches over rangers and all creatures of the forest (especially dryads). There is a 1% chance that she will aid her dryads when they are in extreme danger within the bounds of the forest. There is a 5% chance that she will attack those that try to destroy her domain, for whatever reason. Because of this, men like woodcutters must plant two trees for every one that they cut down, or eventually face her wrath.
She automatically negates all charm-type spells within a 30 yard radius of her body. No creature that lives in the wilds is able to hurt her, even if controlled. She is not affected by clerical spells of any type. When magic has failed to hurt her enemies, she has been known to summon huge packs of wolves and flights of hawks to attack despoilers of the forest.
In the Forgotten Realms AD&D campaign setting Mielikki was known as an intermediate power. Here is what they said about her:
The Power: Mielikki is the Lady of the Forest, the goddess of the woods and those creatures who live within them. She is the patron of rangers in the same way that Oghma is the patron of bards. In the confusion following the Time of Troubles, she also gathered autumn into her portfolio, away from the dead Myrkul.Mielikki appears as a young maiden with leaves and golden moss for hair, garbed in sheer robes of green and yellow. Her symbol is the unicorn, or in older texts, the white star on the green leaf.
Mielikki is allied with and in the service of Silvanus, and with the growing power of that god is diminished in her own right. Within a generation she may be reduced to demipower status or become a quasi-power. Her followers already have added the name "Daughter to Silvanus" to her other names.
Mielikki is neutral good in alignment, like Eldath, and makes the Prime Material Plane her base of Power. Her exact dwelling place is unknown.
The Ethos: Mielikki's followers are close to those of Silvanus in outlook and ethos, save that they stress the positive and outreaching nature of the wild. Intelligent beings can live in harmony with the wild without requiring the destruction of one in the name of the other. Mielikki's outlook matches that of rangers in general, which why she is their patron.
The Clergy: The priests of Mielikki are scattered and not numerous, and include those rangers who choose to join her faith. The organized church hierarchy (such as it is) is exclusively priests, using rangers as an auxiliary force. Shrines to the goddess are more common than temples, and are found through the North in wilderness areas.
For our own role-playing purposes, the Brotherhood of Pathfinders does not subscribe to all of these views. For instance, we ignore Silvanus totally and see Mielikki more as "The Mother of All." Also, we aren't exclusive only to priests, we include druids as we believe that druids are a very logical follower of Mielikki (being somewhat of a cross between ranger and priest). We also consider her to have far reaching powers that extend beyond multiple dimensions. In other words, to us she's a presence in every role-playing game we play. Even if the creators of the game don't consider that to be so.
