Parasite Eve
Playstation

Another great RPG by Squaresoft, Parasite Eve is the story of Aya Brea, a New York City cop who, for reasons she doesn't even understand, seems to be the only person capable of putting a stop to a horrible mutant whose only wish seems to be to destroy humanity as we know it.

The name Squaresoft on an RPG raises great expectations right from the start. And true to it's reputation, the graphics are good, the sound is great. Not overpowering, just enough to set the mood. There are plenty of FMV's in this game, enough where if feels as though you are participating in a movie. Combined, the music and graphics truly make you feel you are part of the story. A must for any RPG. The Control, however, was a major disappointment for me. Aya walks incredibly slowly, and she doesn't run much faster. If your not standing in front of a door just right, you will spend several frustrating seconds positioning her so she can open the door. Reloading a weapon in the middle of battle can be a major pain because, although she does it automaticly, Aya stops dead while she's doing it..... That's just a few of the things I didn't like about the control.

All in all, although not one of Squares best, it's certainly one of it's more original. Set in modern times, on this earth, with a female as the main character.....Science instead of magic....Conventional weapons.....not your usual RPG. It certainly didn't lose anything in the transition, and the story is enjoyable. The FMV's are what save this game in the end.

Trader or Keeper?
If you're a game hoarder like I am, you'll end up holding on to this game. However, for most people I think this game is a Trader. Mainly because after you've played this game through from beginning to end, twice at the most, it'll just end up collecting dust. Play it, enjoy it a couple of times, then trade it in toward something you haven't played yet.
