A game solely for men?
ZELDA
CAMPAIGN DEEMED SEXIST IN UK!!
In a recent ruling by the
Independent Television Comission (ITC) in the UK, Nintendo's TV ads have
been ruled as having sexist overtones.
The comission recieved 72 complaints
who claimed the advert's central slogan
'Whilst though get the girl,
or play like one'
was unfair to girls.
However removal of the advert from the air was not granted as, "such tongue in cheeck treatments were unlikely to have the widespread affect that those who complained feared"
Zelda managed to sell out in
the UK within days of its 11th december launch date, bcoming 1998's biggest
selling game.
The television campaign was
halted abruptly when Nintendo ran out of games to sell, however with new
batches coming in since then it seems likely they will reuse this
'sexist campaign'!
