Mainly
because of the multiple skills involved in becoming a Sorcerer,
many esteemed figures have proposed and followed a different,
modified
path of advancing, that provides different advantages over
the advancing
plans mentioned in Advancing guide section. They are listed
here in
random order, proof of the versatility of this guild and
guides to those
that seek the arcane powers in a more sophisticated manner..
Sylph's advancement
plan..
Illusions'
advancement plan..
Sylph has been one of the oldest Sorcerers in the Realms, and his advancement plan reflects the experience he possessed through his wandering. The advancing in the Thaumaturgists' Guild presents no differences from the one suggested in the Advancing Guide.
However, Sylph uses his experience points in a slightly different way. That is, he advances:
Illusions is a character that has reached the title of the Fury of Heavens through the following advancement plan:
Thaumaturgists'
Guild:
f.p to 10
c.s to 10
m.s to 10
m.s.o. to 15
m.s.o.t to 75
m.s.d to 15
m.s.d.s to 75
m.i to 10
m.i.staff to 75
m.i.scroll to 65
You only get about 900 gps, but Sorcerers quickly
gain gps
and high max gps at low level isn't that helpful.
Also if you want the best possible m.i it's better
to master
2 skills from m.i, usually m.i.staff and m.i.scroll
So m.i.staff and m.i.scroll to 300 then m.i to 300.
I would probably advance in this manner...
f.p to 20
f to 20
f.c.m.u to 20
f.c.m to 20
f.c to 20
f.c.p to 20
f.c.s to 20
f.c.d.m to 300
m.s.d.s to 145 (Air Steel)
m.i.staff to 300
m.s.d.s to 300
m.s.o.t to 300
c.s to 125
c to 50
m.s.o to 250
m.s.d to 300
c to 125
c.h to 125
f.c.d to 300
c.t.s to 125
c.t to 125
c.t.* to 125
m.s to 300
m.i.scroll to 300
m to 300
m.i to300
f.c.d.r to 300
m.i.* to 300
m.p to 300
With the following results...
m.s.o.target
705
m.s.d.self
805
m.items
370
m.i.staff/scroll
475
magic
375
"I'd think of this as the middle path, not exceptional
at anything
but generally good overall. The results from the
moderate guide you suggest are quite similar
however I trade 40 levels in m.s.d.s for 50 levels
in m.i for a
better reduce, I found when you have 40 layers 1
or 2 doesn't seem
to make much difference. There are also things
like reducing the
failure rate of silver scrolls and a slight optimisation
gained
in advancing m.i.staff and m.i.scroll to their maximimum
before advancing m.i."..
