Renowned cabaret singer from Egypt, Cara is a Salumbari, gifted with vast psychic abilities. Her mentor, Wilhelm Lipschutz, has helped her hone her mental abilities over the years. Her psychic potential has drawn the attention of two of the most powerful mystics in the world, Professor Wo-Feng and Professor Ozymandius. Studying under Wo-Feng's tutelage in the Phoenix Palace has made her yet more powerful. She is also an expert markswoman, thanks to the instruction of Lord Merryweather. |
Juliet is a consummate thief and an enigmatic beauty who is able to break into any stronghold. Juliet spent part of her childhood studying under the tutelage of mystic monks in the hidden Tibetan civilization of Divinidon, where she mastered the bo-staff and learned mysterious disciplines that make her even more difficult to catch. Juliet was the source of a heated romantic rivalry between Max Galahad and Benedict Grey until the latter left on a divine mission. Aside from stealing the Crown Jewels of Egypt, Juliet has engaged in deeds nefarious enough to make her the target of a blood hunt declared by Vlad Tepes, King of the Vampires, and the villainous Grey Sisters, heiresses to the Grey Family munitions fortune. |
Professional daredevil extraordinaire, Max will do anything for the thrill and the applause – and probably has. Strong, agile and fearless, Max's can-do attitude makes him nearly unstoppable, although his obliviousness to the conventions of polite society causes Lord Merryweather frustration to no end. Max is known to call on many unusual allies – most significantly his old pal and pilot Sammy Palermo. Max's career has brought him into contact with many notable personages, not the least of whom are his old college buddy Dr. Indiana Jones, and mysterious acquaintance Lamont Cranston. Max's affections for the beautiful burglar Juliet DuPont are no secret, much to the chagrin of his romantic rival, Benedict Grey. |
Disinherited heir to the Grey munitions fortune, Benedict has devoted his life to learning everything he can about unarmed combat. He is a master of every known martial art, but specializes in Sinanju, the ancient Korean art in which any object can be used as a deadly projectile. Coarse and sometimes shockingly ruthless, Benedict nonetheless showed a strange sense of honor, and adored the infamous but beautiful Juliet DuPont. Benedict set into motion a great prophesy by killing Hugala Khan, son of Professor Wo-Feng, and triggered events culminating in his assuming the ancient title of Night Tiger of the Janissaries of Arabia in the battle against the Phoenix Horde. He has left on a crusade to guide his newfound followers into the twentieth century. |
It is said there isn't an animal he hasn't trapped. Having grown bored with the world's common game, this dignified English aristocrat has traversed the globe, devoting his life to hunting the fabled beasts of legend, most notably, the Great White Tiger. His quest has attracted competition from such deranged rivals as Simeon Schrek and Reginald Hollingsly-Smythe. Although oblivious to the supernatural and stubbornly devoted to reason, the Panzaic Lord Merryweather is the man who, along with Mr. Darvy, saved Cara Al-Moud's soul from being consumed by the Phoenix spirit loosed by Professor Wo-Feng. |
They say it was a freak happenstance that caused young Adam to be the sole survivor of the horrible plane crash over the Rocky Mountains that killed his parents. But Adam saw it as a sign that he was living on borrowed time, and that he had to make sure the world was a better place when he left. Adam travels the world looking for people to help, utilizing his uncanny knack for blending in and his strong right cross. Much to the consternation of old-school hardliners like Lord Merryweather, Adam is responsible for sponsoring nearly every woman ever inducted into the Empire Club, including Cara Al-Moud and Deirdre Campbell. |
No expedition to the Arctic Circle would be complete without this hardened Aussie explorer and his trusted boomerang. If there's an ice cap to be climbed, you can guarantee Augie Laramie will be on top of the situation. Made world-famous for his startling archaeological find with Dr. Ralph von Koenigswald of the terrifying gigantopithecus arcticus, a thirty-foot tall, prehistoric ape frozen beneath a valley in an icy land mass near the north pole, Augie quickly drew the attention of The Empire Club who instantly offered him membership. |
Deirdre Campbell, of "The Glasgow Campbells," is the vivacious, red-headed daughter of Scottish antiques mogul Griffith Campbell. Her only goal in life is to make a name for herself as one of the world's greatest Egyptologists. Her efforts to gain admission to the Empire Club to further that end – efforts that were rewarded with her recent admission – included memorizing every dossier of every Empire Club member from the founders to the most recent inductees. Her efforts to seek admission also included using her feminine wiles in an attempt to convince world-renowned archaeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones (who declined admission to the Empire Club for "political" reasons) and honor-bound soldier of fortune Adam Tempus to sponsor her. |
When a European photographer was attacked by a ferocious lion, Cecil Mbanke, a mighty warrior from a lost African tribe, slew the beast with his bare hands and was immediately inducted into The Empire Club for his amazing feat. Standing nearly seven feet tall, Cecil is noted in many medical journals as the strongest human being alive. His tribe was trusted ages ago with the task of guarding the sacred resting place of the Earth Mother, a mystical graveyard where the noblest animals of the African veldt go to die. Spending the majority of his time at Alexandria's Empire Club, Enigma House, Cecil is often accompanied by other Alexandria-based Empire Club members such as Deirdre Kayleigh Campbell, but has also joined the ranks of the elder members from time to time, such as Sir Heathcliffe Quentin Merryweather III and Max Galahad. |
This shrewd detective investigator for the Honolulu Police Department is also the Vice-President of Lotos Mansion, the Hong Kong branch of The Empire Club. He is often assisted by one of his many sons (and even a daughter or two from time to time), not the least of whom is his "Number One Son" Lee Chan, but this super-sleuth can crack any case with his deductive logic and clue-gathering abilities alone.
DR. RALPH VON KOENIGSWALD
In 1934, this Dutch paleontologist found what the locals called a "dragon's tooth" in Hop Kwon's curio shop in Hong Kong. Knowing that the rustic peasants often mistook fossils for such fabled curiosities, he determined the item was actually the molar of a giant anthropoid which must have migrated north to the Arctic Circle. With the tenacious Austrialian anthropologist Dr. Augustus "Augie" Laramie as his guide, Dr. Koenigswald found the remains of a terrifying, giant ape, which he dubbed gigantopithecus arcticus frozen in the icy wastelands of the Arctic. The people of Hong Kong knew the beast better as Sun Wu Kong, the great Monkey King.
CLARK "DOC" SAVAGE, JR.
As a boy, he studied the sciences under the worlds' greatest tutors. He studied martial arts, conventional weaponry and became fluent in myriad languages. In The Great War, he was a flying ace and was shot down over German territory and imprisoned in a P.O.W. camp where he met his companions, among whom are Lieutenant Colonel Andrew "Monk" Mayfair and Brigadier General Theodore "Ham" Brooks. The men escaped and banded together to fight evil around the world after the war was over. Doc Savage is one of New York City's most famous Empire Club members, and he has accompanied Sir Heathcliffe Quentin Merryweather III on a number of exploits, the most recent of which was a foray into the African veldt to uncover a secret Nazi mining operation in the salt caves of Kenya. His adventures with Ham, Monk and the rest of his band of compatriots have rivaled those of any other member of the Empire Club.
