    Description/Image:

A whip-slender, lean elf carries himself after the fashion of a seasoned hunter. The cut of his garments is of a weave of fabric both light and cool that manages to be utilitarian. Dressed in little more than light breeches the colour of earth and leaves and low boots, he is the quintessential catelf of the jungle: tanned, sleek with a permeating mien of grace. Precious for its rarity, a metal knife hangs proudly from a hip belt sheath, opposite from a quiver of arrows. His bow is never far from this hunter's hand, carried with the ease and familiarity of lifelong companion.

Solidly in the mature years, this elf's facial features are those of centuries of gentle moulding by the twin hands of Nature and Longevity. Those attuned to the aging of elves might even accord his look as that of an elder. His eyes are a mild cerulean flecked with emerald, a discerning gaze lending him a feline look like the beasts his kind are apt to bond. A wild raven mane tops his chisled facial lines, tamed solely with a simple strip of leather.

    Background:

In the dim recesses of his memory, Heldin recalls the circumstances of his birth and early childhood. His mother, Thrila, he knows, was a catelf, a member of a jungle-inhabiting tribe in the southern reaches of the known lands. He is told that his father, Lerek, a trader catelf, Recognized Thrila on one of his visits. Heldin, or Redbrow as he was known as a kit, was the inevitable result.

Raised in the gentle love of his parents, Lerek integrated easily into the tribe, offering his services as scout and hunter. Heldin took after his father and learned the skills of a hunter, of the jungle. After a couple of decades, Lerek yearned for the road once more, as his was the life of a trader. It was then, that Heldin accompanied his father, taking up the life as well. Thrila, unwilling to give up her life with the tribe, remained behind, but was visited frequently by lifemate and son, both. For two centuries and a half this was the lifestyle Heldin led; one on the road, interspersed with pauses to see his mother and the one or two 'childhood' friends he had in the tribe.

Around this time and near Lostholt that he was travelling by, when a sound of a growling, frightened cat called. Immediate following, was a scream in elvish. Hurrying to assist, he found a woman being pinned by giant cat. He managed to rescue the woman from the cat's claws, and afterwards felt the mating pangs known to elves as Recognition. Heldin had met his lifemate, and her name was Reina. As it turned out, Reina, too, was a catelf from the same tribe that his mother was. Together they travelled there to raise their firstborn, now known as Depha. As his father did while he was a kit, he remained in the jungles to see his daughter grow.

It was not until after several decades that his desire to be on the road again took him. With Depha fully grown, he once more took the life of a trader elf. On one of his visits to see his family, he and Reina Recognized once more. It was then, that their secondborn, now known as Caliph, was conceived. However, a tragedy would take place, and while Caliph was still within her mother womb, Reina had a hunting accident, injuring her knee badly. It never healed correctly, leaving Reina a cripple. Caliph was uninjured, thankfully, and was born into the world in a timely manner. Heldin remained close at hand this time for a longer period of time, both to care for his daughters and his lifemate.

Amazing for elves, Reina and Heldin recognized a third time and a son followed the two daughers, this one now named Sevik. Like the first two, he remained with the tribe to see his son grow.

Now, some 75 turns of the seasons after the Recognition that produced Sevik, Heldin is once again on the trails. Hardly slowed by his several centuries of life, he is as hale and as hearty as ever. His trips away are shorter now; rarely for more than turn or two at a time before returning for an equal amount of time. It is his own way of keeping close to Reina, while still living the life he enjoys and was brought up to. In their love, Reina is accepting of this, so it is a most harmonious arrangement for which he is unspeakably thankful for. Like all catelves, he is passionate and fiercely loyal to his family and tribe.
