Catelves are not shy or timid elves but neither are they savages. If you wish your elf to be shy or withdrawn you need to speak to the Chieftess or Chief 2nd for approval. Please know you must have a background that supports your personality, complete with reasons. The typical Catelf is self assured and usually part of the elite in hunting and fighting. You will note some Catelves are even cocky and in some 'extreme' cases (with supported background) a bit aggressive. This however does not mean that Catelves attack without provocation or start fights in any way.
Catelves are pure blooded elves and do not have any animal blood of any kind. While Wolfriders eat raw meat and are more savage, the Catelves eat their meat cooked but can eat raw to survive. Catelves have become a bit civilized but are still very survival oriented. They will drink teas, season their food and make stews of various sorts. They have clay, wooden, stone and woven bowls for cooking and eating. They will abandon all this however, without a moment's thought to survive.
Catelves bond with panthers which are truly black jaguars. They do have the magic of animal bonding and seem to share an uncommon bond with the great cats. There is occasionally a panther born that is not black, and these frequently change to black as they grow older. Rarer still are the few who never change from their tawny coloring. Most black panthers are not solid black, but rather a dark blackish undercoat marked by blacker rosettes. Many times the unbonded cats that wander the jungles around the camp are more of a tawny gold with dark spots.
According to our history, our ancestors broke off from the group which settled Blue Mountain. It was centries before Kaer (the one-time Chieftain) traveled north to Blue Mountain and reestablished contact with our distant cousins. Through our history and theirs, the gliders and Catelves are most deffinately NOT actual kin. There is no glider blood whatsoever in the catelf history. Kaer met with Lord Winnowill that day and the two joined hands in a symbol of peace. A sort of non-aggresion truce was formed that day. Basically, it boils down to the idea that no glider will attack any Catelf, and vice-versa. We Catelves usually concern ourselves with what's at home anyways, but this was special. To disobey would be breaking the truce and the word of a catelf, bringing dire consequences from the Chieftain of the Catelves and/or Lord Winnowill if caught. We would ICly offer the gliders every friendship possible. This includes protecting them against attacks, however justified. It can not be stressed how uncharacteristic it would be for a Cat Elf to attack a glider.
Catelves specific characteristics: Catelves do not have bright colored hair. It would surely welcome a quick death in the jungles. No bright red hair, white or silver is to be seen... anything close to that would need chiefly approval. Black, brown and dusty blond are far more common to these jungle-dwellers. Catelf eye colors range, from Blues and Greens, to Browns and Purples but unless you have wolfrider blood (IE: it's part of your OOC background attribute) you will not have yellow eyes. We tend towards darker skin, though the sun rarely touches the jungle floor. Hunting trips to the Savannahs are common, as is basking in the ample sun near the river. Scars on Catelves will not be approved. It has been highly uncannon for any elf to have many noticable scars. In nearly any situation there has been a Healer that will heal one without a scar, or heal the scar later. There may be a small number of exceptions in this tribe, since our levels of magic tend to be low and we have gone without a Healer quite often in the past. I prefer that these exception occur through RP, rather than in background.
Please remember that the Jungle has warmest climate of TwoMoons save the Sorrow's End area. It is humid and sticky and full of bugs. Even Sorrow's End Elves find the heat and humidity somewhat overwhelming. Because of this the normal attire is just breeches, shorts or loin cloth for males. And small two piece outfits for females. You don't have to be sexy, be what you will, but anyone with furry boots and a tunic would pass out from the heat. Please keep this in mind when you are writing your description. We prefer jungle colors like greens and browns to blend in with our surroundings and have a tanner for IC leather making. Some might go barefoot and prefer it, some like small boots to avoid stepping on snakes and stingbugs. Please take a moment and think how you would like to be set up before completing a descripion.
Catelves are very skilled in fighting and hunting and go to their Weapons Maker for such specialized things as CatClaws or Catpaw whips (BOTH must be attained through RP whether retroRP or current RP)..etc. Our two weapon's makers (Akira and Tyar) may not be able to match times with you, but they will try their best. Weapons include: CatClaw, CatPaw, Spear, Bow, Dagger, BlowDart, Bola. Not all cats are skilled at all weapons and we do have rules for basic combat and hunting. It's simple:
1) You pose your attack (you do not pose your hit, your opponent does) 2) After you pose your attack, the prey or opponent then emit their move. Sometimes lag really hurts a character and we can't allow death over it. 3) You cannot emit a broken bone or and such aggression (including death) unless you page the opponent and ask as a courtesy. Now, if you feel the opponent is being less than fair page Bria or the Chief 2nd. If you feel it's one of them or they are not available then ask for a judge on the CatChat or call in wizard.
