The Catelves inhabit the jungle areas and savannahs of the World of Two Moons. Descended* from the elves that settled Blue Mountain and would later become the gliders, they broke away from the main group and traveled south across the great desert. With much difficulty and loss, they crossed southeast through the foothills and the major pass of the World Spine Mountains. Upon arriving on the southern slopes bordering a vast savannah, the weary survivors were viciously attacked by nearby human tribes and pursued southward. In desperation, the remaining elves eluded their pursuers by hiding deep within the jungle, making their first encampment by a river.
The early Catelves quickly adapted to their new home. To survive in the jungle, they became smaller in stature, and developed a fervor for living that far exceeded their ancient ancestors' fervor for intellectual pursuits. They quickly learned to move unseen through the jungle and surrounding areas, to avoid the watchful humans that still hunted them. Many elves bonded with the great panthers that were quite common in all areas of the jungle. While their degree of magic waned through the generations, the Catelves quickly became superb hunters and trackers, unsurpassed by any other tribe in the area of survival and combat.
Eventually, the tribe grew larger and much dissension split the elves into two separate tribes. Many moved west, making their home somewhere in the small mountain range called the Teeth. Adopting their cats' natural independence, the eastern tribe lived in small groups scattered throughout the jungle, the hunters and chieftain in an Encampment by the great jungle river. After humans found and destroyed those living in the western holt, a handful of survivors came eastward to live with their brethren. Kaer, one of the last western Catelves, lead the reunited tribe as Chief for numerous turns.
Kiala was chosen to lead by Kaer when he stepped down as Chieftain. She lead the tribe for a very short while until she choose her chief second, Katra who had always taught and trained the Catelves in their fighting. Katra was strong willed as well as a natural leader for her fellow tribesmates. Kiala (for reasons known only to Kiala herself and Katra) soon left the tribe and handed the chieftains's knot over to Katra. Making her Chieftess and leader of the Catelves as was expected and deserved.
Chieftess Katra led her tribe well for a while, but after the death of her young kit she passed the Chieftainship on to her lifemate and Lead Hunter Rork. Chief Rork also led the tribe for only a short while. He was young and somewhat hotheaded. After someone pointed out to him some of his faults as a Chief, he passed the title on to Kiera. Kiera has been leading the tribe for over four hands of turns. She is known more for her healing herbs than for her equally formidable skills at hunting and fighting. Those who forget her other skills get quite the surprise when their gentle Chieftess gets mad.
These are the Catelves, strong, fierce and intelligent: the elite of the jungle terrain.
*According to our history, our ancestors broke off from the group which settled Blue Mountain. It had been centuries before Kaer traveled north to Blue Mountain and reestablished contact with our distant elven cousins. (We are not actually Glider kin). Kaer met with Lord Winnowill that day and the two joined hands in a symbol of truce. A sort of non-aggression truce was formed that day: basically, it boils down to the fact that no Cat Elf shall attack any Glider, and vice-versa. We Catelves usually concern ourselves with what's at home anyway, but this had special meaning. To disobey would be like attacking a relative, and would bring dire consequences from your Chief, or Lord of blue mountain if caught. We would ICly offer the gliders every friendship, but we would NOT give away the fort.
